Jared Leto could be set to follow in the footsteps of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, with the star linked to the role of the Joker in David Ayer’s forthcoming Suicide Squad adaptation.
According to The Wrap , Leto is thought to be close to a major role in the new film, with sources suggesting that Warner has earmarked him to play the Clown Prince of Crime.
It had previously been suggested that Ryan Gosling was close to playing the role, only for the star to turn down the opportunity due to an unwillingness to commit to a multi-picture deal.
Leto had been heavily linked to the title role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, only to be beaten to the punch by Benedict Cumberbatch. This could be his chance to add a superhero franchise to his CV.
Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Cara Delevingne are all rumoured to be nearing deals to appear in the new film, with Suicide Squad set to open in the US on 5 August 2016.
