A drama about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing
Given how many Boston-set films he’s starred, we’re starting to wonder if Casey Affleck has a standing order with his agents to send him everything that even so much as mentions the place. But we can see why he might be attracted to a new hot spec script about the manhunt that followed last year’s attack on the Boston Marathon.
The script, which has been adapted from Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge’s book Boston Strong by The Fighter duo Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy, follows the huge Federal investigation into the bombing, which killed three and injured roughly 264 others on April 15, 2013.
An unprecedented manhunt was launched to find Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his brother Dzhokhar, which resulted in the former dead and the latter on trial for homegrown terrorism charges.
Tamasy and Johnson optioned the rights in July last year and considered turning the story into a miniseries, which eOne Television developed but abandoned. With Affleck attached to star and produce, that should help push things forward. The actor will next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (due November 7) and John Hillcoat’s Triple Nine (out September 11 next year) and is at work on Coast Guard drama The Finest Hours.
