As Game Of Thrones’ TV adaptation ventures into somewhat uncharted territory for its sixth season, more cast members are being added. But the show isn’t straying completely away from the books, and one character definitely from George R.R. Martin’s saga is Euron Greyjoy, who will be played by Danish thesp Pilou Asbæk.
Of course, at this point, we have to raise the Spoiler Warning banner (it’s basically someone trying to claw their eyes out sitting in front of a monitor) in case you don’t want to know anything more – not that there is much in any regard. As you might surmise from the name, he’s the uncle of Theon (Alfie Allen) and Yara (Gemma Whelan), and brother to Patrick Malahide’s Balon. A warrior known for his sea-faring skills, he’s the captain of a vessel called The Silence and is known for his quick temper. We’re guessing he’s not going to be too thrilled when he learns about the whole “Reek” thing.
He’s the latest addition to the show for its latest season, with Ian McShane and Max von Sydow already aboard alongside the surviving regulars. The show will be back on our screens next April. Asbæk might be most familiar from his recent role in Lucy, and he’ll be seen next year as Pontius Pilate in the new Ben Hur, which lands on March 11.
