Men In Black Reboot Moving Forward As A New Trilogy

Men In Black Reboot Moving Forward As A New Trilogy

But no Will Smith as of now

There have been several stories about the future of the Men In Black franchise in the past couple of years, most notably the idea that it’ll crossover with the Jump Street team. But now, buried within an interview with producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald is mention that they’re working on a new trilogy, not just a new film

“We’re in the middle of it, it’s very active” Parkes tells The Hollywood Reporter, with MacDonald adding “It will be reinvented as a trilogy.” So far, so pretty much standard for Hollywood these days. But that’s not all.  According to Parkes, Will Smith, surely the franchise’s most recognizable element so far, is not currently a part of it.

No mention is made of the potential Jump Street crossover, but it certainly sounds like the production pair is looking to start things afresh. We wouldn’t be surprised if a new duo of primary agents is launched investigating all things extraterrestrial before any links to other franchises are considered, but like Parkes says, they’re still developing it. We also wouldn’t rule out a Smith cameo, though losing him as the lead would probably allow the budget to be spent on other things.

As for the producers’ main reason for giving the interview, the Malala Yousafzai documentary He Named Me Malala is out in the UK on November 6 and has a new trailer, which you can see here.
