Paramount’s most recent attempt to jumpstart the Jack Ryan franchise with Shadow Recruit (starring Chris Pine as the Tom Clancy-created character) may not have sparked a new film series, but the studio is instead passing the baton to its TV department, hiring Bates Motel man Carlton Cuse and fellow writer/producer Graham Roland to develop a small screen incarnation.
Don’t expect Pine to be back for this one – yes, we’re getting yet another Jack Ryan for the series, which is also being produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.
Cuse (who also works on The Strain and upcoming series Colony) is on board to produce and run the show, with Roland (who he met on Lost and has worked with since) will be an executive producer. They won’t be directly adapting any of Clancy’s books, but will instead be showcasing the character as a CIA agent/analyst in the present day, a few years beyond when we see him in the 2014 film, without being a continuation of that take on the character.
This hasn’t been set up at an American network yet, but Deadline reports that there’s a lot of interest in the show, so expect it to find a home soon enough.
