The shared universe is expanding beyond The Mummy...
With Marvel and DC throwing out announcements about their expansive, ambitious superhero slates, Universal wants to carve out a piece of the action for its developing shared monster world. The studio is being a little more low-key, however, announcing just one new film, an untitled creature feature set for release – in the US, at least – on April 27, 2017.
According to Universal’s press release on the matter – as reported by the gang at Collider – the film is a “new epic action-adventure” in the series overseen by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, who have been busy constructing a shared universe for the likes of The Mummy (already set for June 24, 2016 in the UK with Kurtzman directing), Frankenstein’s monster, the Wolfman and more.
Though Dracula Untold was first out of the gate this year, there seems to be less of a connection between that and the other films that Kurtzman and Morgan are shepherding to the screening. Universal seems happy to keep the post-Mummy project under wraps (pun entirely intended) for now, so presumably whichever film that the pair thinks is closest to being ready will get that slot.
