New Chappie Poster Hits The Web

New Chappie Poster Hits The Web

Meet Neill Blomkamp's new robo lead

We got our first look at the titular robot in Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie back in July, when the initial images arrived around the time of Comic-Con. Since then, the marketing campaign has been silent, but has now added a second poster, with an even better look at the ‘bot. {New Chappie Poster}

The director rolled cameras in Johannesburg at the end of last year, with a cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja, Yolandi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo and Brandon Auret, who is voicing the main character (performance captured by Copley). The metallic dude it’s named for is shaping up to be among the sweetest recent robots in cinema history (though Disney’s Baymax from next year’s Big Hero 6 could give him a squishy run for his money).

Chappie, penned by Blomkamp and his old District 9 co-writer Terri Tatchell, sees the title character kidnapped at birth by two gangsters and becoming the adopted son of a strange, dysfunctional family. He’s a preternaturally gifted prodigy who happens to be a robot. With the film due in cinemas on March 6, 2015, expect the first trailer within the next few hours.
