Breaking Bad veteran director may handle tentpole DC movie
Sometimes wishes can come true. And while it is by no means a done deal, it would seem that one of Breaking Bad’s best directors, Michelle MacLaren, is in talks with Warner Bros. to handle the studio’s first Wonder Woman standalone film.
We floated the idea of MacLaren last month, when word emerged that the studio was looking for a female filmmaker to handle Gal Gadot’s big first solo outing as the Justice League warrior.
MacLaren, who also served as a producer on Breaking Bad, was the most prolific director on the show, responsible for some of the series’ finest episodes including Buried and Madrigal. And she helped forge its reputation for startling cinematic visuals alongside the likes of Rian Johnson and regular cinematographer/occasional director Michael Slovis.
Her talents have not been limited to Walter White’s world, either: she’s also tackled great episodes of Game Of Thrones, The Walking Dead and The Leftovers, plus she boasts a long history as a director and a producer on TV. She’s worked on at least one episode of the upcoming spin-off Better Call Saul, too. She’d be a fine choice for the Wonder Woman film, and has, according to Variety, been on the studio’s radar for a while.
Now we just have to wait and see if she makes a deal and ends up directing the movie, set for a June 23, 2017 release date.
