He's circling a role for Quentin Tarantino
He’s proved he’s got the action star chops, can dance a bit, be funny and is garnering praise for his move into more serious drama with Foxcatcher. So it seems natural that Channing Tatum would draw the attention of Quentin Tarantino, with the actor up for what Deadline calls a major role in The Hateful Eight.
No details of the particular role have surfaced yet – that might have to wait until he actually signs on – but if he does, he’ll join Samuel L Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Kurt Russell and Tim Roth in the snowy Western epic, which QT aims to kick off shooting in January for a 70mm release sometime later in 2015.
The plot finds a diverse group of characters thrown together when a stagecoach is diverted from its route by a blizzard. Among those affected by the storm are a couple of bounty hunters, a renegade confederate soldier and a female prisoner. And the main characters, according to the teaser attached to Sin City: A Dame To Kill For are Major Marquis Warren "The Bounty Hunter", John Ruth "The Hangman", Daisy Domergue "The Prisoner", Chris Mannix "The Sheriff", Bob "The Mexican", Oswaldo Mobray "The Little Man", Joe Gage "The Cow Puncher" and General Sandy Smithers "The Confederate".
Tatum is a busy man at the moment – he’s shooting Magic Mike XXL, which he co-wrote and produces and has officially signed on to a Gambit film for Fox. Foxcatcher, meanwhile, will be out on January 9. And for the tortured tale of QT's latest, check out our recent feature.
