He's a lumberjack and he's not okay
If People magazine had a World’s Sexiest Movie, Serena would be a strong contender for the 2014 title. The Depression-era drama stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, stars so hot right now that to even look at them risks bringing on a case of Raiders’ Nazi eyeball syndrome. Still, here they are in a gallery’s worth of new stills from the film. Don your protective glasses and take a look. {Serena stills} Susanne ‘In A Better World’ Bier’s film sees the pair playing married couple the Pembertons – he's a timber baron; she's his alluring wife – for whom all seems well in the world of 1930s timberland. But no! It turns out she’s unable to bear him the heir he craves, and things turn a little Henry VIII fast from there.
He may not actually loop off her head but Ron Rash’s source novel certainly taps into the darker spirits at play in Macbeth, among others, so expect Bier’s film to do likewise. Strong-looking support in this tale of ambition and ruthlessness is offered by Toby Jones, Sam Reid, Rhys Ifans and Sean Harris.
Despite its A-list headliners, Bier’s film has had a struggle stirring up enthusiasm from distributors since it was first shopped around earlier this year. Serena does now have a firm release date on both sides of the pond – you can see it in the UK from October 24.
