Katie Dippold On To Write New Ghostbusters

Katie Dippold On To Write New Ghostbusters

For her Heat collaborator Paul Feig

There’s a new team at the head of Sony’s attempt to recapture the magic of Ghostbusters, with Paul Feig locked in as director. He’s bringing a former collaborator aboard to help, with The Heat’s writer Katie Dippold hired to help craft the script.

During its long, tortured float through development hell, the idea of a new Ghostbusters has been through several variations, including a straight sequel reuniting the original team and a passing of the torch to a younger generation of spook chasers.

Now, with Feig in charge, it’s switching tracks once more to re-invent the series with a female focus and Dippold, who has also worked on the likes of Parks And Recreation and MADtv, will co-write the script with Feig. Uncoupled from the idea of continuing the story, the new project can presumably take the concept in fresh directions.

The pair will work on the script as Feig considers his next job – he’s currently in post-production on Melissa McCarthy action comedy Spy – and given that they’re busy overhauling the screenplay, we doubt Ghostbusters will be next. As for Dippold, she’s written a sequel to The Heat and has a couple of other projects in development.
