While her return isn’t exactly the biggest surprise given that she was on the side of right in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the next Cap film, Civil War, was starting to feel so overstuffed that we wondered if she’d be able to have a proper role. Still, Joe and Anthony Russo clearly feel there’s room for her, so welcome Emily VanCamp's Agent 13 back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. officer, who was posing as Steve Rogers’ neighbour Kate assigned by Nick Fury to help protect him, is back for Civil War. Whether this means we might finally see her referred to on screen by her real name, Sharon Carter (in the comics, she’s Peggy Carter’s niece) remains to be seen, but with luck she’ll have a little bit more to do in the new movie, even if the story already seems huge given the moral (and physical) conflict between Chris Evans' Rogers and Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.
With a script once more by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Civil War is full of people including Anthony Mackie, Daniel Bruhl, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Chadwick Boseman, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen and, as reported yesterday, Martin Freeman in an unknown role. The Russo brothers are shooting now in Atlanta, and Captain America: Civil War will be out here on April 29, 2016.
