Shouldn’t Elijah Wood know to stay away from schools after the events of The Faculty? Apparently that is a lesson he still needs to learn, as he’s playing a teacher dealing with a deadly elementary school outbreak in Cooties.
The blend of horror and black comedy takes place in an ordinary school that is about to have an extraordinarily bad day. A foodborne virus spread by dodgy chicken nuggets is infecting the kids, turning any prepubescents into murderous rage-zombies. Soon, the adults in the facility are running for their lives, regretting that they ever went into education in the first place.
Cooties looks extremely silly, but could also be fun, with a cast that also boasts Rainn Wilson, Alison Pill, Jack McBrayer, Leigh Whannell, Nasim Pedrad, Ian Brennan and Jorgé Garcia. Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion called the shots from a script by Saw’s Whannell, Glee co-creator Brennan and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night executive producer Josh C. Waller. It’ll hit US cinemas and VOD platforms on September 18, but there’s no sign of a UK date yet.
