New Trailer For Star Wars: The Force Awakens To Run With Avengers 2

New Trailer For Star Wars: The Force Awakens To Run With Avengers 2

Head to Star Wars Celebration to see it first

The teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens pretty much brought the internet to a stop back in November. According to Collider, the trailer proper will be doing something very similar at, or possibly before, the time it lands on May 1 attached to Avengers: Age Of Ultron in US cinemas. Expect the Lego version to land on May 2.

Where this leaves the UK trailer break remains to be seen. The Star Wars Celebration, taking place between April 16-19, will see it debuted in Anaheim, and that could potentially lead to an official online launch soon after. Alternatively, we may not glimpse it until Age Of Ultron opens in UK cinemas on April 24. Clear? Excellent.

In any case, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams, from a script that he wrote with Lawrence Kasdan, and stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, Warwick Davis and Max Von Sydow.

In the meantime, refresh yourself on the 12 must-pause moments from the teaser and a briefing guide to all the new characters here.

Johnny Depp's Hand Injury Delays Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 Further

Johnny Depp's Hand Injury Delays Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 Further

Cap'n Jack is yet to come back

johnny depp dead men tell no tales finger delay

Script issues, tricky actor schedules and many, many other things delayed the shooting of the fifth outing of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise - officially titled Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - but now, with Johnny Depp's injured hand situation getting a little more complicated, the film's production has been delayed yet further.

In early March, Depp injured a finger in an "off-set incident", resulting in a delay to production originally pencilled in as two-weeks long. Now, with a pin inserted into Depp's hand to help fix the problem in the long term, in the short term, the cameras won't be point in Depp's direction soon.

The leaves co-stars Javier Bardem and Geoffrey Rush twiddling their hopefully still moveable thumbs, and directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning (of Kon-Tiki fame) no doubt increasingly stressed.

Meanwhile, 400 or so crew have done what they can to shoot around Depp early in the month, but now the latest instalment of the billion dollar series - the biggest production ever seen in Australia - has told half of the man power to stand down for the time being.

The press release has this to say about the plot of Dead Men Tell No Tales, outlining just what macguffin Jack is drunkenly stumbling after this time.

“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”

As well as Bardem and Rush, newcomers Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites are on board, not forgetting that scurvy dog Scrum (Stephen Graham). With any luck, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will stick to its July 7, 2017 release date...

New Quicksilver And Scarlet Witch Avengers: Age Of Ultron TV Spot

New Quicksilver And Scarlet Witch Avengers: Age Of Ultron TV Spot

Meet the twins

Ultron's one thing - big bad robot who likes doing big bad things - but Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch... who are they? Really? Perhaps a minute-long TV spot isn't the perfect answer to that question, but it's the best around for now, featuring some new quips and clips from the upcoming Marvel superhero mash-up, Avengers: Age Of Ultron. So remember, if you're avoiding all kinds of spoilers, you're best off clicking away... now. Still here? Press play ASAP.

The plot, as you’ll likely know by now, finds malevolent machine intelligence Ultron (voiced and performed by James Spader along with a team of CG experts) posing a terrible threat to Stark, Cap, Banner and the rest – not only is it powerful enough to reduce large swathes of the world to rubble, it also helps sprout the lingering seeds of discontent between the Avengers themselves, which could well tear them apart from within.

Back on heroic duty again are Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie). They’ll need all the resources at their disposal to tackle Ultron plus troublemaking powered twins Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson).

Joss Whedon is back marshalling this one, and the film also features the likes of Don Cheadle, Andy Serkis, Paul Bettany (whose character, The Vision, finally shows his face properly, if briefly, at the end), Hayley Atwell and Thomas Kretschmann. Avengers: Age Of Ultron will be out in the UK on April 23.

Shrek To Return For Puss In Boots 2?

Shrek To Return For Puss In Boots 2?

Antonio Banderas drops a heavy hint

Shrek Forever After may have proclaimed itself ‘the final chapter’ back in 2010, but the jovial green swamp-dweller may not be finished on the big screen. According to Antonio Banderas, the man behind DreamWorks Animation’s feline-focused spin-off, a return for Mike Myers and Shrek is on the table for Puss In Boots 2. "I heard some rumours that Shrek my be coming back,” Banderas tells the Empire podcast.

Puss In Boots was of course, a Shrek-free affair that spun out of the series to the tune of $550 million worldwide. A sequel has been germinating for some time already, although, as Banderas points out, “the process for these movies are way longer than people think”.

"They are restructuring the script now," he reveals. "We started… but that’s the process. A lot of people participate in the creation of the script and the story and the narrative, everything. And they include you! They take you to California and you read the script with them, give them your ideas, and a couple of months later you see a new script where everything has been touched [up]."

We respect ourselves far too much to suggest that a Shrek return is ogre-due, but Banderas is certainly keen. "That would be great,” he enthused, launching into full Puss-In-Boots voice. "Shrek doing a cameo… in MY movie? Uh, huh! Yeah, I’d like that.”

Ralph Fiennes To Receive Empire Legend Award

Ralph Fiennes To Receive Empire Legend Award

At the 20th Jameson Empire Awards

The 20th Jameson Empire Awards takes place in London this Sunday in a flurry of red carpet glamour and confetti-strewn celebration of the medium we all love. At the heart of the festivities will be acting great and national treasure Ralph Fiennes, the newly-announced recipient of this year’s Empire Legend award. The Suffolk-born actor follows in the footsteps of Helen Mirren, Tim Burton and Tom Cruise in collecting the accolade.

Even by the vaulted standards of his 25-year career, Fiennes is experiencing a purple patch. A Golden Globe nominee for his exceptional comic turn as M. Gustave in The Grand Budapest Hotel, he’s also kicked-started his directorial career in fine style with contrasting period pieces, Coriolanus (2011) and The Invisible Woman (2013), in recent years.

Fiennes, of course, is twice Oscar-nominated. He was first recognised by the Academy for his indelible depiction of SS commandant Amon Goeth in Schindler’s List, a tone-perfect depiction of the banality of evil, and went on to receive a Best Actor nod as The English Patient’s lovelorn Count. There’s been memorable villains, including Voldemort and In Bruges’ potty-mouthed Harry, romantic heroes, and, in the shape of Gareth “M” Mallory, an ongoing presence behind the oak desk of the James Bond franchise.

Fiennes will be joined on Sunday by a host of actors and filmmakers at the 20th Jameson Empire Awards, collecting an array of gongs, most voted for by Empire readers. Follow the night’s events here via our live blog and news feed, Empire’s Twitter feed, Facebook, Viber and Instagram. There may also be smoke signals.

Jake Gyllenhaal And Amy Adams On For Nocturnal Animals

Jake Gyllenhaal And Amy Adams On For Nocturnal Animals

On for Tom Ford's thriller

Whether you appreciated the elegance of his filmmaking debut, A Single Man, or are one of the four people who can afford his clothes, Tom Ford is a compelling figure. He’s returning to filmmaking circles shortly with a thriller called Nocturnal Animals and is tapping the ex-Nightcrawler Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams for parts in the film.

Ford’s follow-up to the 2009 Christopher Isherwood adaptation is another interpretation of a novel, this time an Austin Wright tale called Tony And Susan. The set-up involves the intriguingly meta-sounding device of a book-within-a-book. The first part sees a woman, Susan (Adam’s character, if she signs up), sent a manuscript by the husband she left two decades earlier, requesting her feedback.

The second element dives into the manuscript itself. It’s called Nocturnal Animals and follows a family holiday that goes violently wrong, before reverting back to Susan’s recollections of her past marriage.

According to Variety’s sources, Adams and Gyllenhaal have both pursued Ford's script, with rumours that Joaquin Phoenix and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are also on the director’s wish list for other parts.

Aside from writing and directing, Ford will co-produce Nocturnal Animals alongside George Clooney and Grant Heslov via their Smokehouse Pictures banner.
