Fast & Furious man takes on the cartels
A man on the up and up, Fast & Furious 7’s Tyrese Gibson, AKA Roman Pearce, is looking to lead the preposterously badass-sounding Desert Eagle into production. Universal have optioned the script, potentially lining up the actor-singer’s first star vehicle and a chance to show what he can do away from his F&F buddies.
And what he’ll do is go deep into the world of drug cartels. With all kinds of nasty narc business being run out of a casino on a Native American reservation, a pair of border patrol agents are sent in to investigate. Gibson, it can be safely assumed, will be playing one of the good guys in this equation rather than a villain or random croupier.
According to Deadline’s scoop, the project will springboard off a spec script written by Gibson himself and Mike Le, a VP at the actor’s Q Pictures marque. Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell (Bad Robot’s Valencia) are working on rewrites with Gibson and Le on exec-producer duties.
Next up for Gibson is a role alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw and a spot in Ride Along 2. Next up is the small matter of Fast & Furious 7 which lands in the UK on April 3. Head to our big Superbowl trailerpendium to feast your eyes on its latest spot.
