Shot entirely during magic hour
Disney’s reboot – well, re-slipper – of its classic fairy tale Cinderella is heading this way like a speeding pumpkin and it has a new trailer to share with the kingdom. Without further ado or even a trumpet fanfare, here’s the sparkly goodness for you to feast your eyes upon.
There’s none of postmodern quirk of Into The Woods on display, no princes comically lacking in self-awareness, just a more straightforward telling of the Cindy tale overseen with CG-tooled precision by Kenneth Branagh. Lily James’s Cinderella is the orphan girl catapulted from skivvy work into royal favour by a Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) proffering glass slippers. This goes down none too well with her evil stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her two daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drizella (Sophie McShera), neither of whom are exactly delighted to find her falling into Prince Richard Madden’s good graces.
There’s a few tweaks to the legend here. The slipper is by Swarovski and the ugly stepsisters aren’t quite as ugly as you remember, but this promises to be a classical piece of filmmaking very much in step with Disney’s more traditional (ie un-Marvel and Pixar) arm.
Chris ‘About A Boy’ Weitz wrote the script for this one. Cinderella hits our screens on March 27.
