Chris Pine Circles A Key Role In Wonder Woman

Chris Pine Circles A Key Role In Wonder Woman

Warner Bros. has him in talks to be Steve Trevor

Back in April, word arrived that Scott Eastwood was joining Suicide Squad, and the chatter then pointed to him playing key Wonder Woman character Steve Trevor. Now comes Variety to clear all that up, with news that the man most likely to take the role is Star Trek’s Chris Pine.

The once and future (and alternate universe) Captain Kirk is reportedly in negotiations to join the stand-alone Wonder Woman film that Warner Bros. has in development for 2017 starring Gal Gadot. Trevor, in case you don’t know his comic book history with the lasso-happy Amazon, was an intelligence officer in the US Army during World War III whose plane crashed on Paradise Island. There, he was nursed back to health by princess Diana, and love blossomed between the two. Diana returned to his more mortal existence with him, taking on the mantle of Wonder Woman and her everyday alter ego, Diana Prince. The character debuted at the same time as the heroine in All Star Comics issue eight, published in December 1941.

Warners has Monster director Patty Jenkins gearing up to make the film after parting ways with Michelle MacLaren, while Jason Fuchs is primarily responsible for the script. Assuming he ends up taking the role, expect to see more of Pine down the line in the DC Comics film universe. As for Eastwood? Variety reports that he was offered the choice of testing for Trevor (a process Pine won handily) or a more secure, yet-to-be-identified supporting role in Suicide Squad, and he chose the latter.

Pine, who will be back in the captain's chair for the third Star Trek film, has worked on seagoing drama The Finest Hours, which puts into port on January 29. He’s also in the cast of Z For Zachariah and Comancheria, neither of which have a UK date yet. And on the small screen, he’s in the sprawling ensemble that makes up Netflix prequel series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp, set to hit the streaming service on July 31.
