For the Point Break remake
Gerard Butler's decision to pack his parachute and jump out of the film’s plane earlier this month was not taken by the Point Break remake’s producers as a sign from the universe that they should just shut it down. Nope, they’ve decided to approach Edgar Ramirez to play Bodhi instead.
With Ericson Core still calling the shots, Luke Bracey taking over the Keanu Reeves role of FBI rookie Johnny Utah and Ray Winstone in the role of his agency partner, originally played by Gary Busey, the new version of Point Break is still on course.
In this overhauled but largely similar tale, Utah will once more infiltrate a gang of criminals and allow his connection to the leader to confuse his moral stance. Yet instead of simply replicating the 1991 Kathryn Bigelow cult classic’s use of surfing, the new story will find Bodhi and co. as extreme sports nuts. Kurt Wimmer wrote the script for the new film, which Alcon and Warner Bros. want in cinemas next year. Ramirez, last seen in The Counselor, will next crop up in horror pic Deliver Us From Evil, which is out here on August 22.
