To almost no-one's surprise...
Given how closely it's tied into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s only occasionally that Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series is directly affected by events on the big screen. Avengers: Age Of Ultron seems like the perfect opportunity for some sort of crossover, and what do you know: Marvel is doing just that.
The exact details are, somewhat naturally for the secretive company, still locked away at some level of clearance the world is not ready for, but the show’s team say that the film will have predictably wide-ranging consequences. “You should expect something,” executive producer Jed Whedon tells Entertainment Weekly. “The Avengers is the big tent that all the franchises play under. Obviously, we’re included in that.”
Just don’t go expect it to be quite as big an effect as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which effective upended the entire show’s concept (and, it can be admitted, made it a lot better). “I don’t think any movie has the potential to impact us in the way that Captain America 2 did,” executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen says, “but there will be connections.”
So… Ultron drones hanging around causing trouble for Clark Gregg’s Coulson and the rest? A visit from Scarlet Witch? We’ll find out next May as the film arrives in the US on May 1, following its UK release on April 24.
