Ben Affleck Finds The Accountant

He's in negotiations for an action thriller

He’s currently busy wearing the Bat Suit for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and after he still has to slip on his director’s coat for Live By Night. But a busy schedule isn’t stopping Ben Affleck from contemplating another type of suit – that of a bean counter – for The Accountant, developing over at Warner Bros.

Originally scripted by Bill Dubuque (who contributed to Robert Downey Jr.’s upcoming drama The Judge), The Accountant sounds like it could be two hours of the actor punching numbers into a calculator, but actually follows a mild-mannered office type who uses his boring day job as a cover for his other role – as a lethal assassin. On paper, it looks a little like based-on-real-life businessman/killer tale The Iceman, though Warners will no doubt be hoping it manages to make more of an impact at the box office.

The project has floated in limbo for years, starting at WB with Mel Gibson interested, before moving on to Sony, which tried to set it up for Will Smith. It’s since come home and now Warner Bros. is hoping Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor might take on directing the film, but there’s no solid offer in place yet. But if it all falls into place, the plan is for Affleck to fit the film in between his superhero duties and his stint on the Dennis Lehane adaptation. Before any of that, he’ll be back on our screens this week in David Fincher’s Gone Girl.

Keanu Reeves gets his badass on in new trailer for John Wick: watch now

A new trailer has landed for action spectacular John Wick, in which Keanu Reeves stars as the titular badass who is hunting himself a big old slice of revenge…


The trouble starts when some gangsters break into Wick’s home, beat him to a pulp and kill his dog… the dog that was a parting present from Wick’s late wife.



Needless to say, our John doesn’t take too kindly to that kind of treatment, and sets about blazing a trail of bloody destruction as he tracks down the hoodlums responsible.

Neatly sidestepping the potential pitfall of taking itself too seriously, this one looks like a deliriously OTT treat, as Reeves chews up the scenery while throwing various goons through a series of plate-glass windows. Sign us up, immediately!



Directed by Chad Stahelski and co-starring Adrianne Palicki, Willem Dafoe and Ian McShane, John Wick will open in the US on 24 October 2014, with a UK date to be confirmed.

The boys are back in new Horrible Bosses 2 trailer: watch now

A brand new trailer has dropped for Horrible Bosses 2, in which Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day have become successful entrepreneurs, and as a result, their own bosses.



Having invented a new product known as The Shower Buddy, the trio are riding high, and when Christoph Waltz’s slick investor enters the picture, things look as though they are going from strength to strength.



Sadly for our heroes, Waltz has ripped them off, leaving them no other option but to kidnap his son. Because of course...

Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz look like excellent additions to what was already a pretty stellar cast, with the former proving himself pleasingly adept in a more comedic role. Particularly when he starts “Fight Clubbing” himself.



Directed by Sean Anders and co-starring Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx, Horrible Bosses 2 will open in the UK on 28 November 2014.

Zombieland 2 gets a new writer

Zombieland 2 has been motionless for some time now, but the corpse appears to be stirring with the appointment of a brand new writer to the project.



Deadline reports that Sony has hired Dave Callaham to write a script for the sequel, having previously worked on the likes of Doom and The Expendables.



Better still is the news that Ruben Fleischer is in place to return to the director’s chair, although the report does make it clear that no deal has been officially struck at this stage.



Plot-wise, there are no official details confirmed as yet, although when asked previously about his initial idea for the sequel, Fleisher had suggested that the original characters would return.



Whether or not that is still the case remains to be seen, but with the likes of Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone in far greater demand now than they were then, don’t be surprised to see a few new faces pop up…

Liam Neeson stars in first trailer for Tak3n: watch now

The first trailer has arrived online for Tak3n, in which Liam Neeson reprises his role as family man / professional badass, Bryan Mills.



Things are looking particularly dire for Bryan this time out, with his wife (Famke Janssen) having been brutally offed, and all the evidence seeming to implicate him as the culprit.



However, Mills is not a man to go quietly, and it isn’t long before he’s on the run from the authorities, while simultaneously trying to take his revenge on the real killers.

Heads thrust through refrigerator doors, defibrillators used with extreme prejudice… yep, Bryan Mills is back alright, and he doesn’t seem to be mellowing at all in his old age. And to be honest, who could blame him?



Directed by Olivier Megaton and co-starring Maggie Grace, Forrest Whitaker and Dougray Scott, Tak3n will open in the UK on 8 January 2015.

Brett Ratner developing Rush Hour TV show

Brett Ratner is set to bring mismatched buddy-cop actioner Rush Hour to the small screen, with Deadline reporting that a deal has been struck with Warner Bros. to create a new TV series.



It had previously been rumoured that a fourth entry into the movie series could soon be on the cards, but it seems that Ratner has instead devoted his energies to establishing a series order with Warner’s TV arm.



Scrubs and Cougar Town alumnus Bill Lawrence will co-write the new show with Blake McCormick, with the latter also on executive producer duties.



The series will apparently stick closely to the premise established by the original film in which Chris Tucker’s motormouth cop is partnered up with Jackie Chan’s fish out of water policeman.



With the movie series having grossed more than $845 million worldwide, Warner will be hoping that the franchise still has significant appeal to make a success of the new show. If it comes off, don’t rule out that fourth film too quickly…

First Look At Benedict Cumberbatch As Richard III In The Hollow Crown

And Sherlock's Andrew Scott will be King Louis in Henry VI Part 2

Now is the winter of our Benedict content, made glorious summer by this new look at Sir Cumber of Batch playing Richard III as part of the new cycle of the Beeb’s The Hollow Crown. For this second set of Shakespeare adaptations – subtitled The Wars Of The Roses – we’ll see Richard’s tale plus the two parts of Henry VI.

And in addition to Cumberbatch, the cast for this new set of films features a typically rich assortment of talent including Judi Dench, Sophie Okonedo, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Keeley Hawes and Tom Sturridge, Michael Gambon, Philip Glenister, Andrew Scott, Jason Watkins, Samuel West, Stanley Townsend, Adrian Dunbar, Geoffrey Streatfield, Ben Daniels, Ben Miles, Sam Troughton, Stuart McQuarrie, Anton Lesser, Kyle Soller, Phoebe Fox, James Fleet and Lucy Robinson. That’s quite a gathering of Equity, right there. And yes, it means that with Scott’s inclusion, Moriarty is also getting in on the Shakespeare action, albeit in Henry VI Part 2.

“After the critical and popular success of the first part of The Hollow Crown – and seven years after we very first suggested the idea to the BBC – I am delighted to announce the start of principal photography on the second half of this magnificent epic story,” says executive producer Sam Mendes in a statement. “Yet again we have assembled an amazing cast - under the direction of the hugely talented Dominic Cooke. I'm very excited indeed to see them all bring the rest of this astonishing story to life.” There’s no announced airdate for the new stories yet, but given that they’ve only just started filming, we’ll have to wait a while.
