Park Chan-Wook Finds Fingersmith

He'll adapt the Sarah Waters novel

Following his English-language debut with last year’s opinion-splitting Stoker, Park Chan-wook has finally settled on a follow-up. With several projects in development, he’s confirmed that he’ll next adapt Sarah Waters’ best-selling 2002 historical novel Fingersmith .

Waters’ book, which was brought to TV screens via a BBC miniseries in 2005, follows a young orphan woman raised as a thief (the “fingersmith” of the title) who is hired to work for and potentially help con a naïve young noblewoman. But a much stronger bond develops between the pair.

While the original novel is set in Victorian London, Park’s version will switch the setting to Korea under Japanese rule. Currently, the film is called Agashi in Korean, which phonetically translates to “young lady”. An English title will follow later. Park is currently looking for two lead actresses and is aiming to kick off shooting early next year.

This new development means that other movies he’s been considering, including The Brigands Of Rattleborge and The Ax, will have to wait a little longer for their chance to reach the screen.

New Clip Of Sam Claflin In The Riot Club

Not safe for lunch

Boris Johnson origin story The Riot Club promises one long sizzle reel of upper-class miscreance interspersed with some trenchant social comment and the odd drinking game. How odd? Well, check out this new clip from the film for a sample. Be warned: it will turn even the hardiest stomach.

A story of entitlement, privilege and very silly waistcoats adapted by Laura Wade from her own play, The Riot Club takes obvious inspiration from the real-life Bullingdon Club. Director Lone Scherfig herself denies any direct link between the film’s characters and, say, members of the current government, which is just as well considering the bloody violence that plays out in their wood-panelled club house. When a prank goes wrong, the Rioteers are left with some tough choices to make. Judging by the trailer, some of the group decide to save them for another day.



Pick up the new issue of Empire for a full assembly of this Avengers of arrogance. The character-by-character breakdown takes in Douglas Booth’s uber-coiffed fencer Harry Villiers, Sam Claflin’s brainiac Alistair Ryle (victim of this initiation) and Max Irons, retracing his dad’s Brideshead footsteps as tearaway Miles Richards. Sebastian’s teddy Aloysius wouldn’t last five minutes in this company.

The Riot Club is out in the UK on September 19.

Wesley Snipes returning to Blade franchise?

New Line's planned revival of the Blade franchise could be about to receive a massive boost, with reports claiming that Wesley Snipes is set to agree a return to the series' title role.



According to The Daily News, Snipes is close to agreeing a return to the vampire-filled action saga, continuing the actor's comeback following his two-and-a-half-year spell in prison.



Having recently appeared in The Expendables 3 , Snipes is keen to reestablish his action credentials, even if at 51 years of age, he would certainly be on the older end of the superhero spectrum.



"I’d love to get back in the suit again and do some things I’ve learned how to do now that I didn’t know how to do then," said Snipes in an interview with MTV earlier this year. "I think we’re better at making that kind of a film now."



"Some of the things we did in the early parts of the franchise were experimental and now they’ve become customary in a lot of the Avengers films and other comic book adaptations."



Nothing has been confirmed as yet, but it certainly sounds as though Snipes is ready to don the famous trench coat for one more go-around...

New TV spot lands for Big Hero 6: watch now

Big Hero 6 has released a new TV spot to coincide with the end of the school holidays, in which cuddly robot Baymax offers a word of comfort to returning pupils (and teachers) everywhere.



“You will be alright,” intones the robot, soothingly. “There, there”. We’d imagine there are more than a few people who could do with hearing that this week!



Meanwhile, there are a couple of new snippets of footage in the ultra-brief spot, including Baymax’s adorable attempts to get to grips with a football…

The new film will follow the adventures of teen inventor Hiro Hamada, who will join forces with Baymax and a host of fellow wannabe crime-fighters in an attempt to thwart the plans of a criminal organisation…



Directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams and featuring the voices of Jamie Chung, Scott Adsit and Genesis Rodriguez, Big Hero 6 will open in the UK on 30 January 2015.

Liam Neeson would reprise Ra’s al Ghul role “in a heartbeat”

Liam Neeson has been discussing the part of Ra’s al Ghul, newly announced as the primary villain in the next series of Arrow, and would be open to reprising the role should the chance come his way.



No official casting has been announced as yet, but when Neeson was asked by MTV whether he would consider it, the star was unequivocal in his enthusiasm…



“No, I haven't, I haven't at all,” said Neeson, when asked whether he had been contacted by the show. “I would, in a heartbeat, if it came my way, yeah, very much so.”



And even if the call doesn’t come, Neeson still has some advice for whoever does end up playing the role…



“They have to believe in their philosophy,” he explains. “Ra's al Ghul absolutely believed what he was doing was ultimately saving civilization, and it was quite a good argument he comes up with.”



“Throughout the ages this fraternity, that brought the plague to wipe out a section of mankind because it needed to be regenerated again… very dangerous, but you have to believe it.”



Somebody at the studio needs to give Neeson a call, stat…

New trailer arrives for Shaun The Sheep: watch now

Aardman Animation has released a new trailer for Shaun The Sheep, in which the titular critter finds himself amongst the bright lights of the big city.



Shaun and the rest of the flock have gone walkabouts from their farm, you see, only to discover that city living is a lot scarier than they might have imagined.



And when the hard-ass warden of the city’s animal shelter gets wind of the flock’s presence, it isn’t long before Shaun and co. find themselves in real danger.

While this latest trailer doesn’t go too deep into the plot beyond the basic set-up, the stop-motion animation is as easy on the eye as ever, and there are some great sight gags thrown in for good measure. Kebab, anyone?



Directed by Mark Burton and Richard Starzak, who also penned the screenplay, Shaun The Sheep The Movie will open in the UK on 6 February 2015.
