Steve Oram Says Its Walls Were Blood

He's part of the cast for the haunted house horror

Steve Oram offered horror and laughs in equal measure as the homicidally angry Chris in Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers. For a future film, he’s planning to cut out even the dark comedy and focus solely on the horror, as he’s set to star in Its Walls Were Blood alongside Edward Hogg and Pollyanna McIntosh.

Blood, a title that reads like the worst ever TripAdvisor hotel review, is planned as a portmanteau film with four stories set in the same house. The writer/directors – Sean Hogan, Paul Hyett, Tom Shankland and Paul Davis – will chronicle the haunted residence’s dark history from the 19th century to the present day.

Conner Chapman, Ruth Bradley, Rosie Day, Sam Gittins, Scott Chambers and Belinda Stewart-Wilson make up the rest of the cast for the horror, which should be cranking its cameras later this year.

Oram is also part of the cast for TV series Glue and has worked two other horror films, The Canal and Altar. He’ll also be seen in Mathew Webb biopic The Greatest Englishman, which we’re fairly certain won’t contain much horror besides possibly some greased-up channel English Channel swimming.

Rumour: Avengers: Age Of Ultron to introduce new superheroes?

A new rumour has emerged this morning regarding Avengers: Age Of Ultron , and some potential shifts to the lineup that could be precipitated by the film’s ending.



According to Badass Digest, the film will conclude with Captain America assembling a new team of superheroes, comprised of a mixture of characters old and new.



Why exactly a new team would be required has yet to be explained, but one of the major new additions is thought to be Ms. Marvel, otherwise known as Captain Marvel.



The report does go on to explain that the studio is still deliberating on whether to introduce her here in such a throwaway manner, or whether to give her a proper origin story in her own film, but in any case, it looks like that female superhero isn’t too far away.



Definitely worth staying after the credits for this one, in any case. Directed by Joss Whedon and co-starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans et al, Avengers: Age Of Ultron will open in the UK on 24 April 2015.

Denzel Washington stays cool in new clip from The Equalizer: watch now

A new clip has arrived online from The Equalizer, in which Denzel Washington stays cool in the face of interrogation from a mysterious suit…


The new film sees Washington play Robert McCall, a former Black Ops commando, who has since ditched his service career in favour of a quiet life.



However, when he discovers a young girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) is being terrorised by a firm of Russian gangsters, he just can’t help himself from slipping back into the old routine.

Washington can do this cool, composed badass routine in his sleep, but that doesn’t make it any the less enjoyable to watch, and The Equalizer looks like another solid action vehicle to showcase Denzel at his smoothest…



Directed by Antoine Fuqua and co-starring Melissa Leo, Martin Csokas and Bill Pullman, The Equalizer will open in the UK on 26 September 2014.

Jeff Bridges stars in new trailer for Second Son: watch now

A new trailer has arrived online for Seventh Son, Sergei Bodrov’s fantasy saga starring Jeff Bridges as a mystical warrior and Ben Barnes as his young protégé.



Barnes is the Seventh Son in question, you see, a lowly farmhand who just happens to be a prophesized hero boasting some rather incredible powers.



He’ll be needing them too, because it’s down to him to go toe to toe with Julianne Moore’s evil queen, whose army of supernatural assassins are running rampage through the kingdom.

The film has been delayed no fewer than three times already, its initial release date having first been scheduled for way back in 2013. However, if that doesn’t inspire a great deal of confidence, the quality of the cast alone means we’re still intrigued to give this one a whirl…



Directed by Bodrov and co-starring Olivia Williams, Kit Harrington and Alicia Vikander, Seventh Son will open in the UK on 6 February 2015.

Steve Carell turns nasty in new Foxcatcher teaser: watch now

A new teaser trailer has arrived for Foxcatcher, in which Steve Carell takes centre-stage as unnerving millionaire turned wrestling coach, John du Pont.



Obsessed with the notion of winning an Olympic gold medal, Du Pont invites wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) to his estate to form a team for the 1988 Seoul Olympics, while granting him th chance to step out of the shadow of his older brother (Mark Ruffalo).



Unfortunately, Du Pont is not the most stable of mentors, and things soon take a turn for the tragic as he grows increasingly desperate in his attempts to ensure his dream doesn’t hit the skids.

Carell is on genuinely terrifying form here, while stopping short of the all-out melodrama that sometimes affects comic actors turning “serious”. Don’t expect that Oscar talk to die down any time soon…

Rumour: Joaquin Phoenix back on to play Doctor Strange?

The Doctor Strange casting process could be about to take another twist, with Collider reporting that Joaquin Phoenix is in final negotiations with Marvel to take the title role.


Phoenix had been heavily linked to the part a couple of months ago, only for the rumour to go cold, with speculation rife that he was unwilling to tie himself to such a potentially long-running franchise.



It has since been reported that Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston is the new frontrunner for the role, but Collider claims that Phoenix’s participation is all but a done deal.



It’s thought that the length of the negotiating process can be explained by Phoenix’s desire to retain a degree of scheduling flexibility, allowing him more scope to film other projects, but should the deal go through, it will be a huge coup for Marvel.



Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange will open in the US on 8 July 2016, with a UK date still to be confirmed.

Gael Garcia Bernal runs into trouble in Iran

Usually found cracking wise and dishing out snark about American politics and other subjects from behind his desk at The Daily Show, Jon Stewart took a sabbatical last summer to film his directorial debut, Rosewater, which he adapted from Maziar Bahari’s best-selling memoir. The trailer for the film is now online courtesy of Apple.

Gael Garcia Bernal stars as Bahari, a Tehran-born journalist who has settled outside of his home country, gotten married and is eagerly awaiting the birth of his first child. In June 2009, he accepts an assignment to return to Iran and interview Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the challenger to president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the upcoming elections.

With vote rigging rife and protests rising against the corrupt regime, Bahari is initially hesitant to get involved, but then shoots footage of street rioting for the BBC. He’s arrested and spends 118 days being interrogated and tortured by a man who identifies himself as “Rosewater”.

As Bahari’s wife and the international media leading the campaign to secure his freedom, he’s offered the chance for release on bail if he promises to spy for the government…

Rosewater is set for release in the US on November 7, but doesn’t yet have a UK date.
